Here, we explore key affecting human-animal relationships: number regular handlers an animal has, length relationship with handler, owner changes, familiarity handler. A total 76 horses participated two novel object tasks (walking surfaces being touch a object) to determine whether react differently situations depending they are handled by familiar or unfamiliar person. We observed having multiple negatively affected reluctance towards object. In used be persons, 68% were showed reluctant behaviours while 75% only one person did not show behaviours. Similarly, 26% refused touched 13% The between decreased longer less horses. Horses sold more than once also These had higher chances refuse still owned breeder first buyer. Finally, older (> 18 yo) success at walking surface when led someone (87%) compared (15%). Our findings suggest horse-human may take time develop as it is shaped involving horse’s previous current interactions humans affect everyday life.
